![]() ![]() Here, I find myself picking my way through a menu that feels a lot more like RPG character creation: choosing a body type (with swappable perks), culture, society, and early specialisations by way of that first Tome of Magic - and, of course, appearance customisation.Ĭulture, and your first Tome of Magic, determine the pool of units you get. Where in Age of Wonders 3 you could alter your leader's appearance, your empire was functionally a combination of race and class - Orcish Theocrats, or Dwarven Dreadnoughts. Availability: Out 2nd May on PC ( Steam, Epic, Windows, GOG), PS5, Xbox Series X/SĪfter choosing a campaign, the first choice you make is whether to use a pre-made faction or customise your own. With every new edition, tactical strategy fusion series Age of Wonders has changed up exactly how it works - and Age of Wonders 4 showed its priorities as soon as it let me make a faction of mystical, arctic-dwelling wolf-riding dwarves. This doesn't happen with Dreadnaughts or Necromancer for me at all.Taking inspiration from RPGs breathes new life into Age of Wonders 4, which balances exciting breadth and surprising approachability. It feels like I just don't have enough 'meat' there and my units get overwhelmed quickly unless I'm fighting vs undead. ![]() Something that can reliably entangle, web or net enemies.Īwesome, you clearly know a lot :) My problem is that I'm getting my butt kicked in mythical dungeons - I currently have access up to the exalts, using an army of 2 heroes (1 leader, 1 warlord), 2 crusaders, an exalted and a random ranged unit. Naga Matriarch if you can get one (decent Blight resist, which your angels lack, plus it's a Support unit.oh, and they get Bard Skills as they level up) Theocrat Hero with all the leadership skills. Just avoid going up against Grey Guards, they'll utterly destroy anybody relying on that approach :P.įor a full endgame stack that isn't quite as vulnerable to certain counters: They're Support class, so they get Healing and Devout (which lets them benefit from some very nice Theocrat synergies).
